  • RRole — give a role: "You are an experienced legal assistant."
  • CContext — give context: "We're working on a vendor contract."
  • TTask — a clear task: "Extract all the deadlines."
  • FFormat — ask for a format: "Table: clause | deadline."
  • EExamples — give an example: "e.g. Payment | 30 days."

≥3 of 5 = already a strong prompt.

⚡ Patterns that work

  • Role: "Act as…" focuses the tone.
  • Format: table / bullets / JSON / email.
  • Steps: "Think step by step."
  • Example: show one desired output (few-shot).
  • Iterate: "shorter", "more formal", "add risks".
  • Constraints: "Max 5 sentences."
